Just Us

Just Us

A Poem by Mauricio Montoya
"

Lawless

"

Peace officer,

Few protect and serve.

Many abuse to touch a nerve.

Endings to push your buttons,

Hoping you’ll explode.

Self-gratification,

Fulfills the mother lode

While our laws are divided

On who’s right or wrong?

The authorities play bully

To control the underdog.

The scales of justice,

Are outweigh by wealth

Tipping, before integrity,

For those who have more clout.

Try to be tried, fairly.

By the people of the state

When the system has,

Already sealed your fate.

Now a jury of your peers

You hope to be your flavor

Duration of time before the verdict

Is a fear, most attorneys’ savor?

Witness on the stand,

Swears, without a doubt.

Bible beneath his hand,

The defended shouts,

Justice for me,

Justice for all,

I’m just a patsy,

Whose,

Going to take the fall.

I am in accord with your writing and your concept. I try to stay out of the system, that's why I live on the side of a mountain. I stay out of the game as much as possible. There is no justice, only the consequences of your choices. It's all something different to different people. Great poem.

I found this profoundly correct an such a tragic scenario of our day. Sometimes you don't know if they are good or bad, causing you to doubt what you are doing even if you aren't doing anything wrong.
Great writing and I will favorite this.

There is too much police abuse, it saddens me to read of all the wrongs committed by them. Your poem brings light to this topic. Often laws and police do more to protect the property of the rich than they do for the rest of us. There may good police officers out there, but the whole system is set up in a way that makes me distrustful of them. Like you said, the system has already sealed our fate. An excellent poem!

its been long since I last red oe of your pieces...and no doubt I was missing something...the way you throw light on social and democratic issues has always interested me... with the simple thoughts of a common man you have once again managed to make us think...the conditions narrated here are similar to whats happening in India.. corruption, bribery and injustice have more or less become the mistresses of those who posess wealth. It outlives and outlaws almost anything and everything...

the condition of cops is even worst...get arrested for any crime and the have a set price for your freedom. It sometimes fluctuate as per your social image and stamndard but more ofr less its the same. You can say that the richer you are the heavier gets the stack of money you should pay...
right from breaking a traffic signal to killing somone in cold blood...absolutely anyting can be erased as long as you have money..
wonder if the idea of policing was about giving a clean look to the moraly dead!

You have done an outstanding job showing what can happen. When there is power there is corruption. Not all people but sometimes when people have power they abuse it. They use it to their benefit and police officers are no different. Many of the lines you have written in this piece are not only powerful but speak the truth. Wealth can always change the outcome. Look how many times the famous get in trouble with drug and domestic violence and get a slap on the hand but if it were you or I we would be thrown in jail for sure. This is a strong piece that makes you think and take a deeper look at the world around you.

Interesting thoughts penned in this one..There are people on the side of the law who are crooked and in it for money..There are people who are on the side of the law who want to do what is right...We will have not true justice until Jesus comes again and sets up his kingdom..He will be the rightteous judge..Sara

Too many in our world use their status for their own needs, self promotion in every form - me, me, me! The legal and policing system isn't any different. Manipulators can lock up their ethics alongside a person who can't afford a defence - that's how it works these days, that's what civilisation has come to.

What's happened to Conscience?

you're right; a lot of people go into the profession to have a false sense of power; not every officer is in it to protect us - just thump their own chest

well said - nice smooth and smart flow

Another piece of perfect poetry. The justice system in this country is so screwed up, it isn't based on facts, it's based on the best persuasion and bias a lawyer can present.

A few weeks back, my step-dad was arrested for heroin possession because the cops in a backwards town tried to frame him. Now sorting through this mess is a headache and a half.
Thank you for writing this, someone has to say it, and you did a wonderful job (as always).
