Hollow Words To A Closed Heart

Hollow Words To A Closed Heart

A Poem by Carolina A. Evans
"

This is my first new poem from my Creative Writing class 2 years ago.

"

Hollow Words

"I love you..."

The words drip off the moisture

of mildew and dust as he whispers

in my ear.

I listen, finding solace in the emotion,

but I look into his dark eyes,

and I wonder...

Past relationships float in and out,

voices of "I love you" sting my mind

and bring back with it the pain of such hollow words.

"I love you" became "Sure, I love you too"

then faded to dull mutterings

and took its last breath with "We need to talk..."

But now I look back into those eyes,

brown eyes whose compassion and love

licked the wounds of such harsh words.

The pain slowly fades

as a lump grows in my throat,

And my door finally opens to a new suitor.

"I love you too..."

Wow another good poem! It touches many who have gone through the ins and outs of love. The highs and the lows. One gets to the point where they know its going to end. How does one find the strength to continue and try again. for fear of another replay? Good job!
