North to the Sword

North to the Sword

A Poem by Kris Tate

In my dreams,

I saw a sword,

a man,

the man

Always there,

Granny saw,

him there,

north

"Go north,"

she said

"to love,

to the sword"

So north I looked,

one failure,

she said,

"There will be two"

Back to the start.

Try again,

Granny gone,

loss is sharp,

Failure,

Strikes again,

there is the two,

I know.

Now I can hope,

for north,

for the sword,

for the man.

I look again north,

there

the man

the sword

I will run

off

north

to the sword

He,

the sword,

the man,

waits for me

North to the sword,

to love,

to life,

to destiny.

I The layout is visually stunning to say the lease. Having said that, even discounting its effect the work is very solid. Leaves me wondering about the sword and a poem that leaves you with such questions made you think and that is always a good thing.

did you think about left justifying the last line of each stanza? In stanza 6, it would balance the visual more but not sure if it would throw things off more the other way. Just a thought.

I think the structure really works for this. I loved the idea of going north but not before two mistakes. This is excellent work!
