The New Life

The New Life

A Poem by Treble

“Mommy, daddy, tell me when you want the rain to stop.

I can make it stop with the flick of my wand.”

I remember all of those days I was playing fairytale,

I remember riding around on my first bike,

Eating cookies in the kitchen,

Wondering if the cookies were tasty enough,

Did mommy get the right ones?

Now the training wheels are off,

And I’m not eating cookies in the kitchen,

And I’m not making rain stop with the flick of a wand.

Now I’m worrying if my partner's going to get home safely,

And I’m worrying if my kids are going to do their work,

And I’m worrying if I’m going to get to work on time.

And I’m worrying...

And I’m worrying...

And I’m worrying...

Not about the cookies on my plate,

Not about the rain,

But I’m worrying...

And I’m worrying...

And I’m worrying...

Yes, worrying. An adult life. Responsibility. Now it's up to you. No Mommy and Daddy anymore. No one to look up to. The weight is on your shoulders. And I'm worrying…and I'm worrying.

Me, too.

Best regards,

Rick

So true! Well said!
I like this, its like when you're a child you have no worries, and as you grow up you have all these responsibilities and its not just yourself you're worrying about its like you said your husband, your kids, ect

A Really Great poem with true meaning :)!

Aww, thank you so much! I wrote it for that very reason. I'm scared of all the worries to come. :)
I do understand this poem. Worrying is a constant thought. I like the flow of thoughts and the repetition. Gave strength and balance to the poetry. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome. I liked the poem.
The innocence of childhood is that which we wish could last forever, but alas it does not and we get older and realize the complexities and problems of life, and with them the worries that are part of the territory of growing up.
I like the way you transition from youth to adulthood with your own family as you reflect back on that which you worried about when you were a child. The repetitive phrases of "And I'm worrying" really gets your point across.
