Wedding Day

Wedding Day

A Poem by Becca Hale

Your smile was like a candle, warm and bright

The thought of your face kept me up late at night

You make me feel better than I've ever been before

When you say goodnight and kiss me and open my door

Every day you're gone is another day of waste

I can't eat anything because food doesn't have a taste

And then you come back and catch me in your wide open arms

It's like nothing was ever wrong, I never had been harmed

My brain is foggy, my limbs weak

Every time I hear you speak

I can't look at you without forgetting everything else

And then I hear the wedding bells

I'm walking down an aisle in a flowing white dress

I hear the crowd murmur their thoughts of interest

We say 'I do' and your lips meet mine

Sending a tingle down my spine

Together forever, as long as we are

And long after that, in the graveyard

On our gravestones, placed side by side

Our love is described in one short line

"Their love was true, instant and pure."

Now we rest in peace forever more

If I could change our wedding day

I wouldn't let that gun take our lives away.
