Fair Enough

Fair Enough

A Poem by Lizzy

Three girls talk, talk, talk,

One with dark skin, the

Middle is lighter and the other

Is fair.

One girl is mad, mad, mad,

Attitudinal repulsion against

The dark skin. And  it’s not

From the fair one.

The harsh tone, tone, tone

Is too much for the middle;

I am in the middle and she

Doesn’t care, hear, feel that she

Tears me apart.

She, she, she has

The audacity in her green

Apparel to be talking

About what it is to be

dark skin.

I, I  eye her

Then I, the other.

What is fair is the

Sole person and

Her sole is more green

Than melanin.

It is more emerald

Than grassed leaves.

Crayola could not replicate

Her wavelength; she’s bent, bent

On what is fair but in deed

She is not.
