The Raft on the Stream

The Raft on the Stream

A Poem by D. Pesek

As he sails his raft swiftly down stream,

The banks pass by, as quick as a dream.

Yet he does not see the currents stray from pleasant,

For the future's his focus, he's forgotten the present.

Its very short but it doesnt need to be long to simply convey the temporal paradox of being high...the present is a blur and future is all that matters, because you want to forget the past, or rather, have it erased from your mind; you want only the ecstasy of the present on your fix, and the future is hell until your next fix, so thats all you are focused on. thats what I liked about this, though there were submissions with just as great imagery.

great job!

I don't know how you keep it so short and simple, yet so thought provoking. Big thumbs up!

good choice in your metaphor of life. it's known, but not so known that it has become meaningless and dead. and it leaves the reader wanting more--how are things turning rough? why are things turning rough? why did you choose for the rafter to be so caught up in the future, as opposed to the past?
