Like a Kid in the Night

Like a Kid in the Night

A Poem by Alyssa Dufresne
"

"Twinkle, twinkle little star/ How I wonder what you are..."

"
Like a kid in the night
I sing lull-a-byes, lull-a-byes,
spin in circles, and try
to fly, like a helicopter.

Like a kid in the night
I watch the stars twinkle in the skies.
I sing out "Good night Polaris,
Nite, nite baby bear! I wuv you all!
Take care! Take good care!"

Like a kid in the night,
I sing lull-a-byes, spin 'round, spin 'round and
fall down, then watch the stars drop out of the sky.
(I think they were shot by Orion.)
One by one, (they're so beautiful) they fall onto my face,
and slip down my cheek. They taste
like dew-drops, salty dew-drops.
(Like the ones that fall when I'm scared.)

Like a kid in the night, I crawl
into my bed, slip under
the sheets, and dream
sweet dreams that are known only by me.

And like a kid in the night,
I whisper sweet secrets while I sleep.
(All about my dreams.)
The dreams where
I run through fields of rye
in the night, all alone. I spin in circles,
fall into the rye and get catched,
then get up and spin again.
I cheer "Good night, good night, Mom.
G'Night, moon, g'night baby bear. Polaris, big dipper,
and all you out there."
Wishing love to those whom I call friends.

Wondering,
like a kid at night;
Will I, tomorrow, dream again?

Dreams are the fuel of our imaginations...Lovely and desirable...You did a great job with this.

This is perfect. Who cares about the length??? This is a great lullabye to sing to kids at bedtime...Ive watched you grow as a writer, and I must say, I am very proud of you, and this is dreamy, sleepy, cute, calming...and yeah, maybe stars do taste a little salty sometimes, but I bet at other times they taste like the best candy a kid has ever had.
