Mask of Darkness

Mask of Darkness

A Poem by Victoria Nakis

Look into the deep night sky and what do you see?
A black sky that you only get when midnight comes
Stars that look like sparkles litter the sky
The moon takes it thrown at the top of all the stars

But look deeper than that, what can you feel?
Do you feel the weight of the darkness coming down on you?
Can you taste the fear in the air, the freight?
Beyond the beauty of the night there is the unknown

The beauty of night is merely a mask
You can’t see anything beneath it, but you can feel it
No one ever knows what lurks ahead,
But in the dark it’s even harder to predict

The moon is out, and helps you navigate through the night
But what do you do when the moon can’t be your guide?
What happens when darkness consumes your vision?
You run, you try not to scream as you breath quickens with your heart beat

Suddenly all the legends and stories don’t seem so unreal to you
Every scary story floods back to your memory
You begin to second guess if they are truly real or still a myth
All the things around you seem to be out to get you.

About
My name is Victoria. I've lost touch with writing lately, but it's always been a passion. It's my favorite outlet when the feelings I have can't be contained. I'm not particularly good at poetry.. more..
