Darkening of the Mind

Darkening of the Mind

A Poem by Tessa

Cigarette butts and empty bottles
Scorched out pipe and empty lighters
House made for 6 but there's only 1
How lucky they must be to have found someone
But we unlucky few don't have much say-
On how our mind's treat us, oh what a shame
Pondering on the same feeling day in and day out
Grappling at the seams of sanity
Craving the feeling of significance
You've always had enough but you were never fully satisfied
So keep on searching for what you desire
They say beauty is pain but goals will be met-
At least, that's what you believe
Happiness is simply not a priority
In this state of mind it's only a matter of time-
Before reality sets in and you break
They tell you to snap out of it and move forward
But the darkness keeps pulling you back-
Into this sad little world that only you can see
And if only you can see it, they figure it must not exist
So here we are facing the problem-
That still remains completely unresolved
A vulnerable type of emptiness can lead to a darkening of the mind
And eats away at every last shred of hope
Nobody can accept it because it's not a physical illness
It's not a game, it's not for attention
The truth of it all may come as a shock, but here's the reality of it-
Depression kills

Your writing style flows so well-as others have commented it makes the last line that much more poignant. These must be really difficult thoughts and feelings that you're describing, and you express them wonderfully. Very effective, keep going!:)
