Prior To Now/Past Times

Prior To Now/Past Times

A Poem by Val Val

A snap shot of time.
A glimpse at what
Fate could have turned
Me toward. Trying textile
Tongue-tied tangible things
On for size. Selection was
Never a problem. Graceless
And gangly, I ground grass
Under heel. Handling the
Hassle was easy. Ever the
Estranged nothing, niggling
Naive feelings found home.
Heaven a foreign, if not frequent,
Dream. Damned from day one.
Dried lips longed to lick lying
Pride but the proffered pinpricks
Of organized religion rang true
For a time. Tanked after a rather
Regular supply of hate harangued
Itself deep in my dumb drip-dry,
Off the rack mind. Mingled mindlessness
With murdering missiles of might.
I wouldn’t wonder/wander long.
Lapped at the pool of poisons and
Found fervent love lacked poise.
Too personal for much notice. Not
That I needed praise, just jazz-like
Mellow moods and the occasional
Ocular delight. Dim to black.
