Change

Change

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

who knows why.

"

                         Change

How did we get here?

To this place of broken dreams,

How did we become those people,

Like ships passing in the night?

I have no defence or explanation ,

To quiet the demanding voices clamouring for answers.

You look at me and it is so strange,

How your glance skates over me,

You smile, but your sadness is too great,

You laugh but it sounds forced.

Is it so easy then to lose something,

That takes forever to find?

The ache in my heart is like an open wound,

The pain leaves me gasping for breath,

That I am not sure I really want to come,

Fiery kisses that once fired my blood ,

Now seem cold and undeserved.

And promises whispered on willing ears now float away unheeded.

I am smiling because my pride won't let me falter,

And you are trying to force answers,

That dare not come,

I am broken as surely as if thrown from the tallest tower,

And you are going to be just fine ,

Because your dreams changed to not include me anymore .

Vidva, been there, done that. It was, and is, unbelievable when the person you have loved for years suddenly becomes a stranger to you. I realize I was different after my car wreck and resulting coma, but my ex believed I would never change; that how I was right at that moment was how I'd be forever. I was trying to act normal with 1/2 my brain tied behind my back. The hospital offered her counseling, so she might have understood a little better, but she wouldn't hear of it. If she thought SHE didn't understand what I was going through, how did she think I felt?

It is hard to walk away from a relationship, even when you know that it is not what you want or need anymore.

glad to hear that :)
Just your style. Very deep and profound piece. There is confusion in every line yet the pain of seperation is evident. Takes one read to understand it but many more to feel and I can feel to my heart. Thanks for sharing.

Ah, the question so many ask themselves when a relationship breaks up. The truth is, people change and if they end up growing in different directions, it is difficult to make things work. Compromise is the name of the game....and it has to come from both sides. The pain of a broken heart is palpable in this write. Good intensity of emotions. Lydi**

Thank you Lydi.Very true words :)
This is so sad, heart-felt and splendidly written ! You used such an evocative style, so full of pathos and strong images ! Similitudes, oximorons, metaphors and so on, you mastered poetic devices. There's not much to say, just a lot to enjoy :)

Wow thank you again LP.Your kind words leave me speechless.Thank you again :)
I'm studying this kind of behavior and emotion....
your theme truly captivates me...

It's baffling when the fire goes out in the eyes of the one you love...how badly we wish to turn it back on...painful...

Change is inevitable, sometime heartbreaking.... well expressed, Vidya.~xoxo~
