 Twenty-Six Days – a teenage love story

Acceleration

a slight shifting of my heartbeats

the first time

I knew I loved you.

Blephorism

No, I'm not winking at you.

I have a disorder.

(I'm lying.)

Cherokee Rose

Winding and climbing, you've made your way into my heart

I'm waiting for us to bloom

(We all say stupid things when we're in love.)

Dissentious

I'm not his "girlfriend," okay?

And no, I haven't kissed him.

Yet.

Ego

He likes me!  He told me!

I am an Arabian princess among paupers,

I am an exquisite rose among weeds.

Folly

Great.  I farted.

He laughed though.

And it didn't smell that bad.

Gauze

Thank you! thank you!

I didn't even know I was hurting –

and then you stepped in and fixed me!

House Snake

Her? Oh, she's mostly harmless.

People say things, but I've known her forever.

She wouldn't touch him.

Inquisitor

Sorry.  I won't ask again.

Half an hour late isn't so bad.

And we still have the whole night.

Jaywalk

I used to always use the crosswalks

But I'll break all the little laws

when I'm with you.

Kayak

Oh, does she kayak too?

And so does Enid, but she was at school yesterday.

Are there rapids approaching?

Laryngitis

How do you eat with my parents

and sit there silent, like an idiot?

Can you hear me? Hello?

Mixed

Back at C and G

I knew I was in love.

Now I'm not so sure.

Novelistic

Oh, Catherine!

Oh, oh, Heathcliffe!

Sorry, can't talk – being slain by a Brontë.

Obnoxious

I don't mean to be, really.

I just want to know where you were

when you were supposed to pick me up.

Persuasion

I really wish

you wouldn't look at other girls

when I'm talking to you.

Quip

WHAT?

WHAT did you say?

…HARMLESS?!

Reflex

Something very animal and sensible:

"Respect yourself, you stupid girl."

Without thinking, I do.

Sightless

I can usually see underwater.

I don't understand why seeing through tears

should be this different.

Throe

I am twisting in the throes of agony.

Alone, in my room,

I can hear them laughing.

Uranium 236

I am an unstable isotope,

slowly decaying.

Even my stupid chemistry is tearstained.

Verily

I say unto thee:

I was wrong, I was wrong,

and it kills me when you two hold hands.

Writhe

No, I don't want a kleenex – really.

It's fine.  I'm not crying.

Please go away.

X

Suddenly, my seat next to you is awkward.

Flirty comments burning on my myspace pictures.

Where does it all go, now that we're through?

Yes

And now, an apology? A dozen roses?

Just one sweet syllable to repair my broken heart –

but I can't.

Zyzzyva

This book is closed, I don't need you.

Let her have you if she wants you, idiot girl.

We've already spoken our last word.

Wow... amazing. The Abecedarian form has always fascinated me, to begin with, but to set a story to it is very impressive. I like the headings being the alphabetical form, many are creative (Uranium 236 stands out...). All in all, a well written poem. Very true, and not superficial, as many poems on relationships tend to be.
