Numb

Numb

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez

Feeling down
Paralysis strikes
Crunches down
With jaws that strive

Sink in it's ghastly teeth
Heartache has no cure
When tragedy bites hard
A heart may bleed
Continue to run
Beat it's beat
But there is no love

The monotonous pumping
Indeed continues
But does it still occur
When one no longer feels?
For if it does
I have no sense at all
For all I see
Are the tears that fall

And I've learned to block out
Live it up
And move on
Try to forget
Instead of holding on
But at times when numb,
A ghost feeling arises
Like an old limb
That once existed
Reaches out to grasp
And catches thin air
That branch does cry
For it senses life
But death has taken it
And memory finds revenge

And at that point
I feel the murmur
Some whisper of life
Telling me to live
And I stroke these words
And hold them tight
Keep them in my pocket
To safeguard It's memory
In case they forget
But as a lost cause
I will never regret
