Pourquoi

Pourquoi

A Poem by Jemima Laing

Why should I be normal

Why should I conform

Who are you to tell me

With such casual dismissal

That I must kowtow and obey

Who are you to tell me

That my whole life is a waste

Do you know what I hear

Do this, do that

I am not asking you

To give up who you are

Our individuality

Is what makes us free

Let us put aside our differences

Don't grow down into the dark

Let us spread our wings and fly

Don't grow down into the dark
Let us spread our wings and fly"
