A Season Remembered

A Season Remembered

A Poem by Robert Francis Callaci
"

echos of the past

"

In the summer of my life,

I navigated my way

amongst the ocean currents

with unsteady feet and a burning

heart; hoping to find the part of

you that I had lost

In the cool autumn nights of

yesterday, when my soul was still young,

I would drift amongst the clouds and

stare upward at the stars; hoping that

your remaining light would shine down

upon my tear stained face.

As the winter chill burrs deep within my

well worn bones, I lay amongst the pebbles

and rocks of a once mighty mountain whose

story mirrors my own. My hope has waned

and all I have are but memories of a touch ,

an embrace and a smile.

I dream of wildflowers and shooting stars

and the gentle rain of a springtime day

I probably agree more with Tina than Bea, you see even if he dreams of such a romantic time in place or season in time... something dark has to loom,,oerhpass this is a prelude to something dark..Only you would tell...or paerhaps not.. Let me stop babling and express how I really feel. The flowing of this poem is just perfect for the title..Cheers :)

That hurts ... I feel that same dull, pounding heartache. I know this pain sir, and you have written it as sure a a camera captures a moment. I can't say I entirely enjoyed the read as it brings back some old heartache but I completely enjoyed the craft.

Well, I agree with Bea and Tinalouise. Those of us who are beaten up by encounters with darkness still have tender sides. Just that the longings and musings so romanticized by others have a jagged edge to them when viewed through a cynical searcher's eyes. I love this piece! It is true emotion with no filter. And those are the 'cowboy killers' of the human experience. When love and loss dance on a stage of hard times and hard choices. Nice.

This is a favorite.

I beg to differ with Bea's comment - I believe this to be the place in Bob that births the beasties. It is a deeply touching glimpse at the core of a man who strives for what is good, light and great ...but is beaten up by encounters with the darkness.

I find this to be my story and expect it applies to so many - we 'know' what we truly desire and with a passion we stride forth in search of it. Stark scenes and encounters bear down on our once perfect hope until we find ourselves accepting less, settling for that which is not our dream and resigning ourselves to realities we do not choose.

That this ends with:
"I dream of wildflowers and shooting stars

and the gentle rain of a springtime day"

...reveals that the spark that ignites our true selves, cannot be extinguished and is therefore an eternal/immortal seed ready to grow again and again. There is a chant in a religion that speaks of the most glorious water lillies growing from the murkiest waters... giving up should never be an option when there is everything to strive for, always.

You moved me Bob - you have that amazing power as a writer.

Namaste,
Tina Louise xxx
