the Phoenix

the Phoenix

A Poem by Mia Angeli

she rises

rising from the ashes

she is like the Phoenix

she is burning

they want to tear her down

or burn her up

they want to break her into pieces

they want her in tears

they want her in pain

they want the mask down

the smile down

she sees the pleasure in their faces

when she kneels of pain

she is waiting for the freeze to cool her down

it burns!

it burns!

she is trying to scratch her skin off

it burns! she screams

she screams

and screams again

look at the smile on their faces, baby

do you see it?

how happy and satisfied they are?

do you see it?

she hears them laughing

enough! she screams

she rises

up against Tenebrae

she is burning

but she doesn’t fall down to ashes

she likes the fire

she rises again

see they are not laughing anymore

the flames embrace her

they explode

she shines

with open arms

she rises

look at them, they are afraid, baby

fight

yes, they are afraid, i say

i look at the flames burning my hands

burning the rest of me

yes, they are afraid, i say

but i am not
