we are still in a cage

we are still in a cage

A Poem by Francesca

We are still in a cage

Many of us brothers and sisters may not realize this,

But we are still in a cage, we like are broken birds, we croak our voices

We spread our black wings, occupying every little bit of space we have

We are given little breadcrumbs to satisfy our hunger,

believing that it is enough and we should be grateful

We swallow our pride and take in what we can get

But little breadcrumbs won’t satisfy our freedom, little breadcrumbs won’t satisfy our dreams, little breadcrumbs won’t satisfy anything, but our hunger

If one bird stomp its’ feet in rage, and croaks its’ voice until it can say no more

Instead of uniting with that voice like a youthful choir, we bow our heads and look the other way.
