Author's Note

Sheila Kline
Thank you my dear Writer's Cafe friends who continue to think of me during the critical illness of my son who battles Adult Onset Type I Diabetes! I sing a song of friendship for each of you!!

A Song of Friendship

When all is darkness and you want to give up the fight,
Remember a loyal friend will help you find the light.

When your walk’s unsteady and you can’t stand on your feet,
A friend will be the one to help you upend defeat.

When winds of trouble gust and life seems to be your foe,
Take the hand of your friend and alleviate your woe.

A friend sings with you lyrics of a calm friendship song,
And sticks close to you as chords of life tarry along.

It’s a blessing to have an extra caring, kind friend
You can count on to stay with you to the very end.

This fond ally can elicit tranquil reverie,
Often just enough to end your angst and misery.

With such a confidante, silenced are notes of despair.
A trustworthy and true friend brings happy times to share.

Faithful friends remain, through “thick and thin”, good company
To write a friendship duet imbued with harmony!

Yes, a good friend is with you through the bad times and the good and will remind you of all the good times when you need to smile. So sorry to read your son is struggling with diabetes, but once he gets on the right diet and has the right medication, he will be functioning like a well oiled machine. Another great write for you. I liked the artwork! Lydi**

my pleasure, hope he gets well soon,,and you
my prayers are up for your son ..for quick and guided hands upon his care and speedy healing in mind body and spirit ..DB can be so devastating in our lives ... as a retired RN i say to you, my new found friend, don't forget to take care of yourself too ...
your poem brought so many warm memories of "best " friends i have had the privilege to enjoy ..there are a few i still am in touch with from time to time ...when i was a teen my Da said "Friends are a dime a dozen son; your family is always there" ... well of course at that age my friends were the all that beats all ... years later when married and doing the middle class shuffle i told my wife that story and she hesitated a bit and said....."Oh! that's why we don't have any!?" ... so we laughed our no money blues away ..for a while anyway .. thank you for sharing this poem and your story ... i will be thinking of you and your son along with my own children as i send up my prayers ... love and peace

Dear Sheila,
Thank you for this sheer beautiful poetry. Its a joy to read.

A friend sings with you lyrics of a calm friendship song,
And sticks close to you as chords of life tarry along.

Though distant, you are in our hearts and our prayers and its such a joy to sing the friendship song. May God touch Jerry and strengthen him.

Though it might be limited, your time on the Cafe is cherished! Sending much love and regards now!

I will say a prayer for your son. I'm in need of prayer too so if you think of it...this is the second write I've read today on friendship. I miss my friends...they were few but treasured. I've lost a half dozen close friends...the kind you can call at two in the morning. I would say I am fortunate to have had them in my life. Some folks never know that sort.

True friends are hard to find, but when genuine and sincere, you hold onto that trust as they do likewise!

A candidly penned, trusting, fellowship poem, you are not alone Sheila, trust me, despite the turmoil of life's indifference!
