So Far Away! Christmas Military Tribute

So Far Away! Christmas Military Tribute

A Poem by Sheila Kline
"

The Holiday Season is a difficult time for those who have loved ones away from home and fighting in a war. Let us remember them!

"

So Far Away!....Thoughts of A Military Spouse....

It was Christmas and she'd celebrate it alone this year.

Accepted were reasons but she remained without cheer.

Her military spouse was far away while fighting a war.

This holiday would surely be different than one's before!

She viewed packages under the tree wrapped with care.

Cheerful paper, pretty bows didn't take away despair.

She admired cherished ornaments from season's past.

Multitudes of yuletide memories made to forever last!

Her Darling's photo graced the mantle decked in pine.

Memory was all she held of him to embrace this time.

She picked it up and held it close to her crying heart,

Promising then for devotion and love to never depart!

She accepted it was his duty to answer America's call,

With others fighting with him who had pledged their all.

She felt a kinship with loved ones they had left behind,

Many families in homes with a troop's safety in mind!

In stark lonleliness of a Christmas Eve, she reached up,

Asking other soldier families to share friendship's cup.

She counted them as part of her family in a loving way,

And asked for each a blessing as she started to pray:

Dear Holy Father on this most celebrated of days,

Please watch over every soldier so very far away.

Cover and protect them with celestial angel wings,

As they wage battle so of freedoms we may sing!

Amen

She then stood up and unplugged the Christmas lights,

Stopping for a brief time to enjoy the wondrous sight.

As she thanked God for protecting fighters so brave,

The flag topping her tree with pride, valiantly waved!

May we keep dear in our hearts, the families of those who have loved ones so far away!

This is one of the things, reasons I have come to admire and respect you, my dear friend. You never fail to bring to mind, a friendly reminder of the importance of thinking of others. That we need to remember to be thankful for whatever we may have. For in a flash life could change as we know it with the loss of those we love so dearly. This one particularly reminds us to be thankful, appreciative, and sympathetic for and of those who have loved ones so far away. Placing themselves in the line of potentially terminal harms way...for our freedom and safety. You also set the stage as an example of stepping aside of yourself to take the time to even consider others. As I am sure you are well aware of, the days when that was a complacent action are long gone. We are now in a world of "I", not "We". Sad... I know that I appreciate when I see anyone thinking other than of themselves. We are here for each other. To help those of need when and where we can. It is our duty to do so. Our duty as fellow human beings.
A very heartfelt piece of Appropriately themed poetic art. Remarkably Magnificent!

Beautiful and moved me to tears. A poem that touches you. How could we not pray and support our troops? Excellent job.

This is such a beautiful, moving poem of pride, courage, and hope... Even during this time when we should be surrounded by family and others we love, there are those who have given over this time to protect and serve others. What a lifting tribute!

A beautiful poem. I spend many holidays away from my wife and kids in my time in the Army. I appreciated photos and a lot of mail. I pray everyday for the Wars to end. Need our Soldiers to be home. A excellent reminder of our Soldiers standing tall and brave for us.

What a wonderful and heartwrenching writing in tribute to the soldiers serving overseas! This was filled with emotions from the viewpoint of a military wife.. trying to uphold her partner's mission.. but missing his presence very much. I felt sad but also empowered that a woman could be so strong and understanding as that of those whom are many times disregarded.. the families of those serving.. as they too give so much to support the valiant and brave who are MIA at home.. and sorely missed!

This is sure to sweep the emotions of anyone related to a serviceperson.. the realistic views of missing a loved one.. at such a normally happy time of year.. may they all come home safely soon! Christmas prayers will abound this year..Thank you so much for sharing!

Great work. We think of so many this time of year and all too those who serve us in the armed forces have to be away from home on this wonderful time of year. You capture the hearts of all who serve or have loved ones who serve.
