I am a child of The Vietnam Era, so my thoughts turn to this war to pay tribute to them! May the memory of our heroes be ever in our hearts!!
Another Teardrop On The Wall!
(Written in memory of losses in Vietnam)

Another teardrop’s on the Wall,
Honoring a hero who did fall.
He gave the country he loved his all!
His name has been inscribed in gabbro.
He walks now in formation in Heaven's Legion,
Fate sealed defending freedom in a far off region.
Sadly, his teardrop rests not alone.

From duty he did not turn away,
As he served each and every day.
In the end, with his life he did pay.
Flowers now placed at the Wall,
Honor ultimate sacrifice made with pride.
Forever remembered will be how he died.
Proudly, his teardrop does liberty condone.

A lone bugler sounds taps ever sad.
Good's recalled instead of the bad.
Those grieving think of love they had.
Mournful tears fall from their eyes.
Hands trace outline of name who gave all,
Made wet by another teardrop on the wall.
Lovingly, their teardrops for hate atone!

"Honoring a hero who did fall." and "And with life in end did pay." are structurally poor lines. They would be better as "Honoring a hero who fell" and "And with life, in end, paid" The use of "did" before the active or passive verb weakens the structure of the entire piece. As for content, I greatly admire your tribute to our soldiers and those who gave their lives in the awful war. My brother is a Vietnam veteran so I was personally moved by this piece. Thank you for remembering the sacrifices made by all in this write.

Sheila,

To those, such as I, who lost friends in Vietnam, this poem is most poignant ... Thank you for sharing ...

I am glad you were meddling with this..so I could read this gem...
I have been to the traveling wall...but not the DC one yet..but someday I will and leave my tears, and trace the names of the fallen

And again we think of those who passed in another war to end all wars, how hopeful that had to sound when they said it. You honored them well with this work!

Thank you for this touching tribute. What it was that we bought with those 58,000 lives, I don't know, but everyone of them that gave their all was a hero.

Any tribute to the wonderfully courageous men and women who fight for us is utterly and completely worthy. Your words are beautiful and written in such a fine and sincere manner.

What turns it into a tragedy is that there are more writers waiting in the wings to write a poem echoing these thoughts in the future. War never stops, but the deaths continue, time and time and time again.

Powerful, to the point, lacking in frills; but then, that war, all wars, don't have frills, they're an indictment of so called civilisation.

The picture made me cry.

Heart-breaking, Sheila.

OH how sad it makes me cry this is such a loving poem for those who gave their all .
That wall is a sad sight to look upon... it makes you ache.
Your poem is written so well and such a tribute to the veterans and those who did not return.

Beautiful sentiment that can't help but bring a tear to one's eye. As always, you show your tender heart and humanity.

Greatly enjoyed.

Sheila, sorry I am getting to this late..I am having a lot of back trouble..i think we do not give the veterans of all our wars enough praise of attention..like those now coming home to poor hospitals and no jobs..Where does it all end?Great tribite..lol and God bless..Kathie
