Mother Earth

Mother Earth

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Are we listening

"

Mother Earth

Sitting in the shadow of the afternoon light.

Filtered by the canopy of green.

As the heat waves spiral upward into the open air.

Watching the shadows of light and dark,

As the sun makes flashing streams through the canopy above

Not moving and lightly breathing,

Listening to the earth, to hear her breathe.

Silence is needed to hear her.

Her voice is soft, but don't let that fool you.

If we don't heed the warning and mend our ways,

Mother Nature will step up and unleash her rage

There's no stopping her once she is cross

So in that peaceful moment

When she speaks softly

Please take notice

Once she has spoken, she won't say it twice

She'll just demolish everything in sight!

Beautiful!! We would all be wise to pay heed when Nature whispers to us, for we do not want her to have to raise her voice!

I saw the damage done by nature. She can be the destroyer. Above lines are very true. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome Willard.
unfortunately we are not listening closely enough, or at least those who should be listening aren't... we are consumers and consume we must and will, at will... the juxtaposition between the light and dark in this piece is beautifully controlled, Willard... there is a great lesson here...

Agreed, Willard... time for these entities to move...
Aha...goes too far telling us how to listen once to the soft music or voice of mother nature.Just once to pay attention to the beauty and amazing qualities she has within herself.
Brings me back to the nature with the amazing line"as the heat waves upward...."spirallly.Amazing picture too,i would say:)

could not agree more Willard, i'd welcome selective destruction I.E. the people who cause the most trouble in the world or those who bring suffering in any way to others but I guess it will be the innocent like the good people of Nepal and the like who get hit the worst, hurry up the apocalypse and the victory of Christ, your poem which is brilliant seems to have unleashed my rage against the horrors of this world, sorry about that :)

Thank you Richard. You may have just borrowed my soap box, but that's OK.
This conjured up images of Native American Indians and the way they were guided by the earth. You set out a very cautionary take upon which to reflect Willard. But will we act?
