The Cocaine Effect

The Cocaine Effect

A Poem by Wynter Page

A pale mind

painted with white thoughts.

I thought of passing slowly

through the carpets,

through the dirt,

all the way to the bottom.

I felt like my soul was already there.

Stressed eyes

with red outlines,

just show how much I've tried.

No lessons to learn,

caught with your bluffs down.

It was too late to take notes.

No, now I had to snap,

I had to fall in love with

insanity.

Let that cocaine strength

with methamphetamine rules

carry me along, just along for the ride.

All the way to the top.

But how could I stand

on those numbed muscles?

Still shaking,

still buckling

under the pressure of all the other limits.

I flailed and fell and gazed at my reason

with an extra pair of eyes.

No words,

no voices,

no movement.

Can I even remember how to live?
