Escape

A Poem by Luna Evangeline

Butterfly

Delicate and gentle gem against the sky

Fluttering off to somewhere new

Beat your wings against the autumn wind

That grows colder with every passing day

Take off and never land

Before you freeze in the night frost

You’ll be stuck here

In the icy clutches of the past

Float off into the future

Stay beautiful while you can

and anywhere is here? well they both went there...
i feel if the butterfly stays in the past, he or she will no longer be delicate...

that wears off when we can't fly on to new loves and promises...

we end up back in the cocoon...stagnant and lonely--
the autumn wind blows that past towards us...the spring and newness awaits with open arms.

really great visuals and allegory i see here..

Or maybe the title is Butterfly, but just a suggestion. I like as is.

It's beautiful as is and very nicely written even if nothing is changed. Thank you for sharing.
I really liked this poem. I enjoyed the sentiment and pacing. I might leave off the first line butterfly and start, "Delicate and gentle..." I might leave off the the's in some areas b.c your description is already strong, " beat your wings against autumn wind," "Before you freeze in night frost." Well written. Very pretty. Thank you.

A sad and beautiful poem. A butterfly life is short. I like the logic of the poem.
"Float off into the future
Stay beautiful while you can"
Thank you for the outstanding poem. Welcome.

This manages to be a charmingly poetic warning. If only butterflies could read (and also had internet access). However, at the same time, their delicacy belies the fact they have survived this long (well, not all of them).

Thanks, TLK. I felt butterflies were the perfect metaphor in this case.
