Sharing the Rarity

Sharing the Rarity

A Poem by M. McDonnell
"

Usually I use very strict structure, so to break from that was a nice change. Also, I forgot I was registered on this site! Now I remember why I loved it!

"
A tear rolls down my cheek.
One tear, and you catch it.
But you don't move.
You surround me.
You're five feet away, but you envelop me.
My soul is spilling out.
You collect it, dust it off,
Breathe life into it, give it back.
It's mine, I know,
But you can share it if you'd like.
Your handprints stain my heart.
With every beat, I feel the patterns of your fingertips.
Stay with me.
Say anything.
Your words are sweeping melodies,
Carrying me off, taking me away to better lands.
-
Home is where my head rests on your shoulder.
I breathe your warmth.
With your arms you hold me together.
The pieces start mending, and I exhale.
I live in your embrace.
-
I think of you in colors of sunrise.
The hues of hope, of beginnings.
You are the vibrance in my sky.
When I am empty, I fall in step beside you.
Love pours off of you like fresh rain.
It fills me up.
Other half, you make me whole.
-
Love is a common word, but the feeling is rare.
Thank you for being my exception.
