Pride

Pride

A Poem by Stacy Purvis

A refection in a window, a flash of light

Memories of yesterday, no end in sight.

You left me without a reason, a lie

Just a twisted story of you and I.

I was running from your ghost only to find..

It was a ghost I needed all the time.

If only we could turn back time

Damn your anger and damn your pride

Go back to yesterday, touch my soul

Only with you do I become whole.

An echo of voices down the hall

These shadows are killing us all.

When you’re alone do you ask ‘why’?

Do you ever think about you and I?

Infinitely small in this vast Universe

Only in each other can we submerge…

If only we could turn back time

Damn your anger and damn your pride

Go back to yesterday, touch my soul

Only with you do I become whole.

I’m broken, beaten, and so alone

Goddamn it baby, won’t you please come home?

I don’t wanna live this life without you…

Don’t wanna lose what we could have

Sometimes you’ve got to give to receive

Open up your arms and believe, just believe…

If only we could turn back time

Damn your anger and damn your pride

Go back to yesterday, touch my soul

Only with you do I become whole.
