Could You Love This Man Again?

A Poem by Paul Pruett
"
One Day, the Question Will Be Posed.
"

Could you love this man again?
Is that impossible?
To forgive the foolishness of this man?
To accept his open heart as you once did.
Knowing he has seen the true error of his way.
The utter idiocy of the past.
He has traveled a long road since then.
Seen the results of his actions.
Felt the pain in you and found it there in himself as well.

Could you love this man again?
I know promises mean little.
But I would love and honor you until death.
There is no one who now lives I would love more.
No heart would I cherish as much as thine.
Beloved, I would do all you ask.
Just for the chance to build a life with you.
If you could.

Could you love this man again?
The others were mere shadows.
A rehearsal for the true love to comes now.
I have waited and still do.
For this true love may come yet.
If.
If you could love this man.

Almost a heartbreaking plea; a sad poem but with touches of hope towards the end, maybe cathartic... but which or whatever, very lovely.

'To accept his open heart as you once did./ Knowing he has seen the true error of his way.' Isn't that sentiment in all of us somewhere in life.

Thank you for sharing such beautiful words.
