After Dark - Chapter Three

A Chapter by lawrence bear

The Stand

He hears the grunts and growls, looking around frantic. He begins to walk backwards, shinning his light everywhere and listening to the growls, as they get louder. Yellow eyes gleam in front of him not far in the shadows. They are like fireflies, blinking in the moonlight and are followed with a growl.

His heart drumming, fear grips him as it slowly prowls closer, growling and its eyes seem to go off and on, like a light. In the back of his mind, his thoughts were hoping it were only a couple of fireflies in the air. He shines his light toward it unsteadily; he sees its mouth gaping with enormous teeth and blood colour saliva dripping from its mouth.

The growls sound like a purr, he gulps down his heart, and the house seems to be miles away. Nearly crawling backward, each step he takes the beast in front of him gets closer. It’s a stare down, gripping his rifle, seconds seem like minutes. Eye to eye... like two gunslingers facing off. But if he were to let go of his light, he’d fire blindly into the darkness. Chewing his lips, he gulps a breath of air. His body tingles, fighting his fear.

Staring into the eyes of his Reaper,

“You want to dance? Let’s dance… you cocksucker!” his words slowly crawl to a whisper.

The light drops...

A very good chapter. I like the way the two faced each other. A perfect ending to a excellent chapter.

Well, that was rather intense. It must be some sort of werewolf or something. Nice dark scene.
