After Dark - Chapter Twenty

A Chapter by lawrence bear

After Dark

A sudden jolt of fear struck him, and his heart slammed against his chest. Glancing around at his predators, he caught sight of a silver ball rising from beyond the hills. And then a prickling feeling surged from under his skin, like tiny needles, itching as if something were eating at him from inside to out.

No! He cried out. No, it can’t be, this is not happening. It’s not real!

As the sphere of silver light descends upon him, he no longer has control over his body.

God… God save me from this, this… damnation. He begged and then he cried out in pain trying to awake from this nightmare.

A transformation has begun with him screaming to awake from this dreadfulness, screaming from the pain. And then the moments that followed, from within the darkness, a beast gave a stretching howl to the moon.

This is good Lawrence. Really good . . . what exactly does anything "without malice" mean? I know how you mean it, but I find that the statement baffles me every time I see it.
