After Dark - Chapter Twenty-Three

A Chapter by lawrence bear

Night Breed

The wind breezes and stirs up fallen leaves on the blacken forest. The drumbeat of feet can be heard running on the forest floor, trees rush toward its view. Through the eyes of a mortal, the woods are dark, black and filled with many obstacles. Through the eyes of a night stalker, the sight is red, illuminating. It sees everything. It hears everything; it runs with ease, running toward a clearing, racing toward the silver light the moon casts. It needs that light. It draws its energy through it.

When the beast reaches its destination, it rises on its hind legs and throws back it head greeting the moonlight with a satisfying howl. Gathering fuel from the moon, and then crouches on all four limbs, hunching and snarling. And then with a burst of speed it takes two giant leaps before it disappears into the woods letting out one last cry as it goes.
