Painful Regrets

Painful Regrets

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay

Feeling sick,
will I ever stop?
From making the same mistakes
time and again.
Of doing, what will hurt me and none other.
Of doing this shameful thing,
shamelessly...

Of loving you,
and then leaving you.
Of spending so much time regretting
what I did afterwards.
Try as I might, I can not stop.
This has gone too far.
No going back,
no moving on.
Standing still, on this pathless future;
I wonder what is in store for me?
After doing every shameful thing,
shamelessly...

I did like this poem.
"I wonder what is in store for me?
After doing every shameful thing,

I believe a fool for love. It is okay. Better to be hopeful than sad. I did like the above lines. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

well....thinking about this...reminds me that i have done stupid things, stupidly---and too many times---
my pain is probably much deserved...when it comes to love---i knew better, thrice.

You are welcome my friend.
I often hear people claim they have no regrets; I beg to differ. I admire your honesty about toxic relationships which are also fickle by nature. We expect a different result every time, tricking ourselves that change will happen. Here are some examples of trigger phrases I observe from others:

1. "I can help change them."
2. "They said they would never do it again."
3. "But I love (him or her.)"

Repeating the same mistake is something we can all relate to. Personally, I have also broke up and got back together with an ex. I learned the hard way after seven years that it was not working out after being on and off. Forgiveness is vital, but trust takes time. It feels wonderful at first when you are stuck in a temporary delusion. It hurts worse like a hangover when you realize your "shameful" act.

Thank you for sharing!

sincerely,
ria

Our consciences can be a bother can't they? Nothing like being stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place. A good write.

Thank you for reviewing. I'm glad you liked it ☺
Very moving, this piece reminds me of when I was young and reckless, caring only for my own sorrows, and not of the consequences of my actions.

It is very difficult to become -almost-addicted to love. It's like being stuck in a moment

Caught in a cycle of repeating your own mistakes time and again I can relate to. Sometimes life feels like a revolving door we are stuck in, watching others move in and out so freely, while we never seem to make it through to the other side and freedom. Honest and poignant words, beautifully expressed.
