Always

Always

A Chapter by Dr YumnaKay

'Do you see that oak tree, right over there?' She asked.
'Yes, I do.Why?' I replied.
'The way it stands all day..Do you get it?
All the while, providing shade and comfort to all those
who come to rest under it..
Never once thinking of its own benefit..
And what does it need? Watering daily for it to flourish
So that it can continue for what it's meant to do all along
But what happens, then?
It is shoved mercilessly away, cut and thrown for our benefits.'
I didn't know where this was leading to..
She continued:
'This is how I feel like,
I am here for everyone
My friends, my family and whoever else needs my help
Comforting them in their time of needs
Yet no one realizes that maybe I too need it when feeling low.'

And finally I understood, what she meant by giving the example of an oak tree
I looked her in the eyes and said:
'I am always there for you..'

A resounding message that's both true and wise, especially the conclusion. The comparison to the giving of a tree is a classic metaphor and you pen it effectively here. I could relate to this, I'm the person my friends often come to when they need to vent or are having a hard time, but I rarely get to myself. Sometimes the person that's there for everyone needs someone to be there for them. Thank you for sharing this excellent write.

Sometimes, when we are keen to give advice to others, we can give the impression, that we are invincible. Even your mighty oak would not have flourished without the help of its acorn.
An excellent metaphor,reflecting asobering message.

That's a great insight. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated (:
Trees though always providing fruit and air and shelter to other, are the strongest of all nature. If only we understood.

Hey thank you! I truly appreciate it :)
Beautiful message!
I feel there is always one person like that in our lives, who selflessly care for us. But sometimes their servitude is taken for granted, which is a shame and we all should care for the people who love us.
Great piece!
Kudos!

What a beautiful divine glimpse of wisdom, and kindness, and the world of loving and living to lift each other. It is wondrous when poetry lifts the reader, making him or her wish to be a better person.

This is a very relatable idea, expressed in a very creative way. Good job using a parable to show instead of tell. In our US society around the holidays, many moms are probably feeling this way as they work so hard to prepare everything for everyone else, but neglect themselves. Everyone needs to hear the last line more often than they probably do!

Well yes the world would be a better place if all of us realized this..
Only recently in my own community and farther afield are carers beginning to get the recognition they deserve (and 9 times out of 10 don't even want) but they are only human too.
This is a wonderful piece YumnaKay. My favourite of yours yet.
