A Starless Sky

A Starless Sky

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay

This dilemma of letting you go,
or keeping you with me
is unbearable...
remember you once said:

"It doesn't matter
if we aren't together,
what does matter is you,
that among the million
stars I counted,
you were the one,
who shined brighter
every time I looked."

Some things are not easy to let go
but when the time comes,
you have to make the decision
of choosing what you want.

When life gives you choices
between having it your own way or
making the person you love,
happy and content,
I've decided to do the latter,
'cause although it hurts
but who does it hurt more than me?
After all, all I've cared
is for your happiness.
Even if it does mean that
I'll have a starless sky in
a world without you...

Wow... This is so powerful and I can relate to this really deeply right now. Its hard to let go of someone, especially if you care deeply for them. You want then to be happy, but sometimes it costs your own happiness.
This is really powerful and beautifully written. I love it

Hey, thank you so much, Erica! I'm glad you enjoyed reading this one! ☺
A very romantic poem indeed. The "star" concept you put in is wonderfully effective. A bit sad but lovingly rendered at the end. Those last two lines are beautiful and the entirety of this poem exudes melancholic Love. This is endlessly enjoyable to read.

Very nice poem, Kay! :)

I love the flow to this. It's very easy to read, as if my own mind is thinking your words. I also love the purity and passion in this. I can really feel it! The quote was a beautiful touch too. Nice work. You have quite the talent.

Hello, Sasha! Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it ☺
Had wept with the second stanza... So much that I had to momentarily leave to regain myself than return to review. Just broke my heart in its beauty... None of it is easy. Letting go, nor choosing to proceed, nor living a half-life without a single star in sight... It is knowing what you want for yourself or WHO you want for yourself. And the sheer selflessness in this piece... Those parts of ourselves that we sacrifice for the happiness of the ones that we love... I've been here. Seem to live here. To me the greatest loves are the ones who say 'thank you'... Thank you for our time together, for loving me, you were wonderful as all I have ever wanted for you is happiness. This poem is the epitome of true strength. And just lovely.

As Carole King sings, "I can't make you love me if you don't, you can't make the heart feel what it won't" This kind of letting go is so painful, but it is the only healthy thing one can do. I agree with Tony about the use of fonts- two is sufficient. beautiful and heartfelt.

Yumna this is very moving and relatable.
The true test of the heart which professes love above all else is letting them go and even seeing them happy with another.
The font switches were a tad off putting - one switch would suffice i think.
Well penned dr.
