Retrospect

Retrospect

A Poem by Yvonne Remington
"

A look back on mortality

"

Climbing up the hill was way too fast and furious
Once on top there was so much of life to grab
And not enough time to grab it all
Now that mortality is breathing down my spine,

I find myself thinking about things undone.
Gardens not grown, fortunes not earned, poems not written,
Political rallies not attended, wars not averted

The one I regret the most; the educations not pursued.

With so much to do, many projects started without an end
It seemed so difficult to find what was most important
it all evolved and now to has less meaning
I find the time now to search for the answers to questions

That puzzled me in my youth.

What a wonderful feeling to sniff the rain before it starts to fall
And to feel the freshly turned earth before planting
At nightfall I gaze to the sky and see brighter stars and
possible scientific amazements

As I take a deep breath and inhale the life giving air, I feel peace
I no longer fear my mortality with the knowledge that
Life is energy and energy never really dies
The spirituality of my youth is swinging through the revolving door
Only to find me waiting .....

This is my second round on this website. My hiatus helped me develop into short stories. I have an anthology on Smashwords, but I realized I needed a community of like minded people. Please read, .. more..
