What Should I Do?

What Should I Do?

A Poem by zaisham9393

I have been chasing perfection

ever since I remember

Too thin, too fat

I can’t be perfect

Secretly, deep inside we all know that

Some go under the knife

Thinking it might change that

Pretty face

Let’s see who wins the stiletto race?

Addiction is addiction

Whether you are addicted to food

An unhealthy exercise addiction

Clueless you might be damaged at core

Hide that damage not to feel insecure

And you want more, more, more

Who are you starving for?

If I keep doing this

I can look like her

She is my role model

And you will see me get there

I just have to find a way to get out of this shell

No matter what I need to do to get out of this hell

Sacrifice my life; I’d rather starve to death

Just want perfection, so I can love myself

Facebook, instagram, selfie and whatever

Life, beauty, mind, based on social approval

who cares...I'll be famous like her

Don’t care if I will live this way forever

No matter what road I have to go

I am having the best time, that’s what I will show

Let them know, the taste of this life is so delicious

Jealousy, temptation to prove, time to make them envious

She is worth nothing, I will say that again and again

To validate my own and feed off the pain

I will be the one, the center of universe; a blessing and a curse

Can’t keep my opinions to myself

Invade privacy, share those secrets

Hey, that woman you see, needs to lose weight seriously

I can see you staring; now tell me how perfect I have to be

If I am an abuser, you are a bully

In a way we both are different but have the same reaction to any story

Life is perfect; can you see those rainbow colors?

Won't tell even if her life is just as black and white as yours

They say I am too thin

There is no way you can ever win

And the other one tells me I need to gain 5 and more

You can’t win them all, can you?

They will say what they want to

Those words turn me against me

I see the part I hate to see, I hate to be me

Is being pretty a blessing, it with a positive attitude?

Is it about health risk or a fashion statement?

Tell me if there were no labels or struggles

Who would you be?, Healthy or flawless body

What’s best for us, what’s the real purpose?

Instead for making each other feel worthless

Body shaming affects everyone

Whether it’s skinny shaming or fat shaming

No one wants hurtful comments from strangers

And can put someone’s life in danger

take care of your body and spirit

beauty lies in diversity.

When it comes to…Body shaming…

What’s your personal opinion on the topic?

It not only happens with girls but with boys as well and It is seriously the concern of the present times...People are affected so much by the social world and others opinions that they are forgetting how special and unique they are created....Hats off to your write.Inspired me... Thank you so much :)!

The message is very strong. In our days, society puts so many people under pressure and makes them dissatisfied with themselves. In this crazy try of finding "perfection", we forget about us. We are able to make so many sacrificies, such us starving, "correcting" our appearance, just in hope that we will be loved. The most important thing is that we don't have to obtain others' approval regarding our life. Nobody has the right to judge the way someone looks like or what he or she does. If we are reconciled with ourselves, than why would we listen to those who try to change who we are? Who we truly are? It is a big challenge to be who you want to be, not what others choose to see. Thank you very much for sharing this inspirational poem. Good luck! :)

I told my daughters year ago. Everyone is different. Be content with who you are. Seeking perfection is dangerous. Media showed perfect people and kids believe the foolish media. Your words honest, true and wise. You must eat right and exercise. Keep heart and body healthy. But perfection is in the eyes of the beholder. Someone loved you. They love you for who you are. Thank you my friend for the powerful and worthwhile poetry.

Ugh I really hate body shamers, if the person is happy just leave them alone, in my family (I wont say who) but when I gained a few extra pounds this person came up to me and grabbed my stomach and said "wow you've gained a lot of weight" it's just mean, I'm happy, I really enjoyed reading this piece and loved the happy ending nicely written :)

This is a very poignant and timely piece. Body image and body shaming have become worse over the past several years and it messes with a lot of people; men and women almost any age. It’s a very real problem. I hope people quickly come to love themselves and be healthy. If you want to take steps to eat better and get exercise to be healthier, by all means. But please do so the right way. (General statement for everyone.) Too many try to become what they thing they want to look like in a dangerous way hoping they will find some kind of acceptance in who they are, and this will never happen. People need to love themselves and realize that the only one they can be is the best version of them they can be.

I liked the read very much. I was with you all the way through and had to see how it ended. I think many people will empathize with this one. Keep writing.

I think people are more prone to going by the trends rather than follow their own head in terms of how they look. We all want to be liked, maybe superficiality is what some think is the key to being liked... this is the attitude which needs to be changed...

I think you captured the message very accurately. Fine write.
