SYSTEM ADDICT

Everywhere you see

the news on TV

We witness sufferings and death

How it creates, fear and panic

There is always something tragic

Innocent victims

The tales of suffering and pain

Is there a way to justify sins?

Is there a way to justify killings?

Where to draw the line

When to put aside our differences

Endless cycle

Torn between wrong and right

The evil celebrates

It weakens our faith

For the sake of a better tomorrow

Even if we have to steal or borrow

Find a way to end hate, anger, and greed

To watch the evil bleed

As the blood pours like rain

Washes away the suffering and pain

In this world, the chaos and conflict

In this world, where we are system addict

Cause’ it’s everywhere we see

Surrounded you and me

I hope we see the sunrise

As the darkness descends

As we open our hearts

And this endless cycle ends.

While the individual may lose faith due to such devastation, as counter-intuitive as it might seem, it has been my experience in a war that lasted 30 years that the community at large gains strength from their faith in the face of such adversity. Ironically, for me, the Roman Catholic Church has caused more loss of faith itself, than any onslaught by sectarian murder and government oppression ever could have.
I often wonder though if the world has become more savage or if, as a people permanently plugged into the web - indeed as you put it so well here - 'system addicts', we aren't just receiving more news (and sensationalised at that to sell) than our ancestors did. Much worse has occurred through history.

This is very sad but true. We really need to pay attention to what is around us like our family and friends. But we are more immersed in social media than sitting around a table having conversations with people.

I agree! Thank you Lyan :)!
We need to turn-off the TV. Media control our world. I liked the logic and the thoughts in the poetry. I tell the kids. Read and understand, Know. Don't accept the views of distance strangers. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome my friend.
I don't think we're going through such different times of violence it's just that social media has everything under a microscope. Good and bad. I do agree we are in a cycle of negative and also outlandish reporting. The media has sunk to an all time low. Great job with this. The content creates conversation. Thanks for sharing.

That is the power a figureheads influence can have on a nation, aggression and negativity are the sparks to set the nation burning. People are forced to take sides setting a new civil war into motion. Bravo! You have captured and presented it in a way no one could take offense and hopefully fine understand and come to terms and vote for peace. Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Thank you for your thoughts and I agree with you on this :)!
You speak from the vantage point of someone with common sense, empathy and morals. I choose not to indulge in too much of the drama and carnage. Its become a way of life, which is sad.

Good writing.

Evil has always been here and always will be, but so had the sunshine you speak of. Both can be magnified depending where we chose to focus our energy on.
Great write Zaisha.

That is so true! Thanks :)!
I feel the same when I read newspaper. It depresses me reading all about tragic deaths, serious issues etc. I feel when will all the suffering and threats to human life end and when will again people regain their trust in other people and live peacefully.

You're welcome.
Perfect title. This piece accurately portrays our sad state of mind and affairs.
But...you're an optimist with your final four lines. I'm not (too old), but I hope there are more like you out there. Never too late for an old broad to change her ways....*snort*
