The Cliff

The Cliff

A Poem by Syke
"

Kind of an extension of an earlier poem

"

Standing on the cliff of life

For the thousandth time

I stare into a sea of faces

Happy, sad, angry, accusing eyes stare back

I move towards the edge

The beginning and the end before me

I prepare myself for the jump

The adrenaline kicks in

My heart races through a thousand emotions

Each one strikes me with it's intensity

I take another step forward

My fight or flight response begins

The higher reasoning within me dies

And I take another step

I stumble forwards

In the direction of life, the future, hope, love

Closer to death, the past, fear, hate

The decision is mine

The pressure is building

My heart is about to burst from my chest

The conflict within me grows

My soul is about to be torn asunder

I must make my choice

Towards pain and compassion, a life of excitement

Or stay within the boundaries, safe forever

This was beautiful. I absolutely loved the pacing and the flow. I was sucked into it and it just kept pulling me along faster and faster. I felt like I was falling off the cliff myself. Nice write! I hope I can see some more pieces like this from you. ^_^
