O, Love Has Fled From Me

O, Love Has Fled From Me

A Poem by Gleb Zavlanov
"

Such pity love has fled...

"

O such a pity love has fled from me

Upon the wings of some nightmarish fate

O such a pity scorn and misery

Is all that lingers by my heart’s black gate

O such a pity wilted is love’s rose

O such a pity withered is love’s light

O such a grief that I bear countless woes

With which I am unable but to fight

I thought that love’s bright, warm flame would persist

For countless years, for countless days and on

But hapless being, it waned ‘neath the mist

That blocked the radiant rays of the sun

O such a pity, such a dark despair

    O such a sadness that I can’t contain

There’s nothing worse or moreover unfair

Than love that’s been left in the dark to wane…

'O woe is me' is the theme here, a poem of lament and sorrow as love departs leaving an empty heart !

Soulfully sad !

This poem drips with despair, spilling its virtual ink on the screen. There's a palpable darkness that is reiterated throughout, and it really resonates this sorrow to the reader.

Thank you. After all, like you said, poetry is the sister of sorrow.
Sadness is rampant in this poem. You have made no effort to contain it. Often the best poems are written in sadness. You show how abruptly it all happens. Life's all warm and wonderful and suddenly, it isn't. "it waned 'neath the mist", an apt metaphor.
If I had to say one thing, it would be that "beneath" would be more suitable than 'neath to maintain both the flow and the meaning of the poem. But this is a poem about the emotion and not the structure, so nitpicking doesn't help. Very well written as always.

I'll take that into consideration. Thank you.
I love this so much, especially how it flows all together. Don't hesitate to send me a reading request. (:

Thank you for your kind words. I won't.
There's nothing that feels worse than love, when it withers... despair presented in a classical poem; nicely done, Gleb.

Thank you for your kind words.
Love is wonderful until it isn't:

I thought that love’s bright, warm flame would persist
For countless years, for countless days and on
But hapless being, it waned ‘neath the mist
That blocked the radiant rays of the sun

It's a lovely poem Gleb.
