a dream

I've written a hundred poems with this simple rhyme i called love.
the beat was good, the words played well together.
but overall the stanzas were puzzle pieces never meant to be placed together.
with each word the flow seemed well, but the chemistry beneath the harmony never quite correlated for the best response.
there were laughs, and giggles, smiles, and short kisses
there was this overall sense of puppy love i found charming
for awhile i confused it for the real thing.
and then i met you...

the lights in the cafeteria where dim, the sun streamed but there was still a shadow about your face
you approached me casually and i never expected to give you a second glance
and with your mischievous smile and my name about your lips, i had to know just your name
Then i came to find your name wasn't enough

with a simple smile,
a few good laughs,
though i couldn't see your face
i was falling fast
minutes turned to days
days turned to nights
i fell into your arms
you captivated my life

anger besieged me
a time, maybe two
but every time I turned
my heart burned
for just you
tears stung at my eyes
every chance i had to say goodbye
emptiness filled me before you were even gone
and like the melody in a song we intertwined all along
with simple notes and hard hit beats
with dramatic irony
and comic relief
though not my love
but my best friend
a secret held within

each kiss led me closer
to finding something real
someone i could trust
something to truly feel
i held you close
as i cried
i held you close...
 as i felt ive loved you all my life
i held you close..
 even though i felt i should have let you go
i held you close for more reasons than you could ever  know.

with lips like velvet
you kissed me with a love i couldn't describe
a kiss was a just kiss
until you came into my life..
your arms wrapped around me...
your love more than clear...
my tears, not of sadness, not of happiness, but fear

what would I do without you?
who would I be?

you showed me a love i had thought unforeseeable
the  life i thought unattanable
the friend i found unimaginable
you are a dream

I love this poem. It is so beautiful. This is the love that every person dreams they will find. Unfortunately with the love, often, comes heartbreak.

I love how the words flow from your introduction of the love ... but the last line made me sad. "You are a dream." Such a lovely dream you've given us. Sometimes, waking is so difficult.
