"Flash" Fiction

Seeing a helpless little worm on the sidewalk, a man bent down to pick it up and place it safely in the grass.  Seeing the worm’s futile wriggling, he thought to himself about the fragility of its life, and reflected on his own mortality.  Crossing the street, he failed to see the oncoming bus.
