The Jacobean Era was the period in English and Scottish history that coincides with the reign of James VI of Scotland who also inherited the crown of England in 1603 as James I The Jacobean era succeeds the Elizabethan era and precedes the Caroline era. The term "Jacobean" is often used for the distinctive styles of Jacobean architecture, visual arts, decorative arts, and literature which characterized that period. King James VI of Scotland was the only child of Queen Mary of Scotland and Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley and they were second cousins as they both shared the same great-grandmother, Princess Margaret Tudor, the eldest daughter of King Henry VII and Queen Elizabeth of York. Queen Margaret Tudor married King James IV of Scotland and she had King James V of Scotland who married Marie De Guise and they had Queen Mary of Scotland and she married Lord Archibald Douglas, Earl of Angus and they had Lady Margaret Douglas who married Lord Matthew Stuart, Earl of Lennox and they had Lord Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley and they had King James VI of Scotland and I of England who had Prince Henry, King Charles and Queen Elizabeth of Bohemia. King James VI married Princess Anne of Denmark. King James VI of Scotland and I of England rules England from 1603-1625 but he rules Scotland from 24 July 1567 – 27 March 1625.   Comments |
