what makes a good poem...

"

I've seen a lot of things out there, but when I write poems I have one rule.

~~~Make sure it comes from the heart
Cause if it doesn't then a lot of the time it won't make sense.  I think the best poems come from personal expreiences and things that have happened to people close to you.  If you have to think super hard and it doesn't flow than maybe it wasn't a good topic.  Things you've been through and you feel most of the time just flow.  I hope I helped you please comment on other topics you want me to talk about.
That's right...I mean, for me my every poem has my soul and that is what makes them different..
But I also agree with Brianna that published these days do not prefer to publish poems written about lost love, or the death of a loved one. Its very sad :(
While I wholeheartedly agree with you on this point, it was a surprise for me to realize publishers must feel differently. Where do I come up with that statement? Recently, I joined a group of published poets. Upon visiting poetry readings, I was bored to tears. Some of the driest work has been published. These people tell me that publishers are not that interested in emotional pieces. Death and other depressing pieces are the least likely to be published. Why, because people don't buy it. However, I did notice a lot of story like poetry unfolding from a series of events. Suppose it depends on what one's goal is for their poetry. Personally, I want to be deeply touched by poetry and for me that only comes with a display of emotion.
This is well said. The best kind of poetry comes from the place in your soul that is otherwise hidden. If you're not putting all of who you are, and all you stand for and long to be into your writing, then you might as well not be writing to begin with.
