We observe this day in Hawaii because of the high Japanese population.  You can start observing it too! It's a really fantastic day where usually, girls are told to be extra nice to boys.  In the case of schooling, boys got a special treat (like a packet of candy) and us girls would stay behind to put up away their chairs after class.  Isn't that nice? :P  Not sarcasm... girls get a special day too! Ours is in March, so we got our special treatment first. ;D
