How important is the use of powerful vocabulary in poetry of different genres? Tragic, romantic, descriptive (odes) etc.

Vocabulary is a vital element in poetry of all kinds - and associated with that is diction (or word choice) that hones the use of vocabulary to be effective both in bringing out the desired emotion or the desired rhythm. A lack of vocabulary is like a lack of ammunition in time of war. And a misappropriation of vocabulary will attract barbs from readers - both from well read critics and bumpkins without more than 3,000 word vocabularies.  The best use of vocabulary is necessary for shorter poems as fewer words need to work more in order to get across what flowing, narrative poems have much opportunity and room to do.
