Historical Fiction - All Genres Forum Accuracy vs Story

How important is accuracy? How anal do you get?

Does it irritate you that if you critique someone's work and point out the inaccuracies the writer shrugs it off with "hell, who's going to notice THAT?"

What about romance? Does the accuracy mess with the ick factor?

im sure you dont remember this post, but it is my view the writer is the master of their universe.

Writing westerns and crime, I find I feel bad about myself if I dont try to keep things accurate... at least as long as it doesnt slow the story down too much.
