House of Writers Forum Advice please

Hi, I'm going to attempt to write my first book but I'm not entirely sure how to structure it. There will be two main characters that will initially live their own lives and won't meet each other until later on in the book. I need to write about them separately before they meet so would you suggest writing alternate chapters until they do so? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks
