Getting Started: Rules and Such

Writing in HEC can get a little complicated, so here are some rules to help keep things orderly:

  1. Each story, referred to as a “CoStory”, must be written by two or more individuals, “CoWriters”, may be in any genre, and may be composed in the following styles:
  • Each writer takes on the persona of a single or multiple characters and is therein responsible for that character’s actions and/or thoughts.
  • The writers take turns writing a section of the story up to a point, such as sentence-by-sentence, paragraph-by-paragraph, chapter-by-chapter, etc.
  1. We ask that the composition style chosen by the beginning writer is used throughout the entirety of the story and is not changed by each incoming writer; however, gradual changes are perfectly acceptable.
  2. You may join a story that is already in progress only with the permission of the other CoWriters or you may create your own.
  3. There is no limit to how many CoStories you join, however, joining a CoStory for the sole purpose of undermining another writer’s progress or taking over the entire story as though it were your own will NOT be permitted.
  4. There is standing rule that by joining the group you agreed that any story you take part in writing is partially yours and partially not, therefore if you want to use it elsewhere you need consent from your CoWriters. If you do not agree with this rule and you have already joined, LEAVE NOW. If you do not agree with this rule and you have not yet joined, DON’T JOIN.
  5. The message boards are for discussing with other CoWriters about the progression of your story, getting input from other group members about your story or giving your input on theirs, exchanging possible story ideas with others, or talking about unrelated topics.
  6. The Seventh and, perhaps, most important rule: Monitor your use of profanity and mature content. WritersCafe.org can be accessed by anyone of any age, so please be mindful while choosing your topic or “descriptive words.” Overuse of offensive language may earn your resignation from the group if too many complaints are voiced.

Thank You, and Enjoy!

Just to clarify, all writing will be started in the forums, and those involed can decide when to periodically post the work.

Ah, yes, I suppose I was a little vague on that topic. Thank you for clarifying that.
