Hello Chloe here.. Thinking on this I would say my strengths are imigination and liking people, not minding a harsh review..I don't know if liking poeple is much of a criteria for being a mentor... I think I could use a mentor..

My weakenesses are grammar and typos, sometimes mispelling..
Writing on the spot, meaning not thinking poems or stories out first, just logging in and writing .. This is proabably not the best way to write.
Too, I cannot write poetry forms, like senyrus, sonnets ect.

Since joining WritersCafe I do find my writing has improved..People who review my work are kind enough to give me tips and let me know when I have mispelled or just say, maybe this would be a better way to say it.. so I appreciate the Cafe and the friends I have made..

I would help anyone if I could, in my case though I believe I need a mint.. er and a mentor too!

Hi, I'm Emily, 33, once upon a time I got a B.A. in English, not real sure what's it good for now. I'm married, I have a family and a job. In my free time I dress in funny clothes and interpret the past to the history deprived.

My strengths are my skills editing (four years working for Dr. Dathorne, Univ of KY). I love writing poetry. I love reading on the WC. I've met some great people.

My weaknesses are the mechanics of short story writing. Just starting to delve into that genre.

I'd be happy as mentor or mentee.

Kristen-16-female.

:P I know, I know. Not a dating thread. Got it.

Anyway, I write mostly short stories lately. I enjoy writing poetry, too, though. I have written HUNDREDS of poems. I guess close to 300 now. I've written several stories, and I'm a fan of a twist or surprise ending.

My "mentor" doesn't have to be very involved. I just want someone who writes stories was crazy or unexpected endings, if possible who will send me read requests for them. I learn by watching. I'm an observer 100%.

I like this idea for a club. You guys is smart.

My name is Jen
I have been on the cafe' only since March a mere six months....I am an addict !!
Poetry is my drug of choice...I plan to OD before I die !!

My "strengths" are ....my ellipses....and I won't give them up !!! I even pepper my reviews with them...I can't help it !!! ((( issues)))
I came from a spoken word background. I write with ellipses parenthsis and plenty of
exclamation etc. As I've always written to read ( that's how we do it ).
I believe I hold my own in regards to flow ( rhtyhm), imagery and creativity .

My weaknesses would be my story writing ....I just wrote my 1st one...i have had quite a few helpful suggestions,as well as some positive comments.I'm quite sure my mechanics are horrid,as far as dialog guidelines,I am clueless! I spell check, but I still get called on that as well !

Well all that I've said above...taken into account
I may be as prime of a candidate for a mentee as mentor .

Blessssssssssssssssssssss

Hi,

I'm Lisa, I've been a member of WritersCafe for about 2 months.  I love reading and writing mainly fantasy works and must admit that I am not a big fan of poetry.  I enjoy offering constructive criticism and try to be as helpful as possible.

I guess my strength is creating vivid imagery.  I try my best to cut out unnecessary words in the hope that it still flows OK.  I am reasonably OK with grammar and punctuation but everyone hiccups at some point!

My weakness is that I am very self-critical and keep changing my mind about the direction of the story, which leads to frequent revision and slow progress.

I have written 2 and a half chapters of a fantasy novel I am working on and would appreciate any helpful, but honest, comments.

Thanks

Lisa

I'm Dianne, I joined WC three days ago on Jan 31, 08. I'm new to writing and can use all the help I can get, especially detailed criticism. You know the kind I can translate into action.

From a writer's perspective I'm not sure what if any strengths I have, I'm too new at it to be a good judge. I'm an excellent reader and that is my first love. I think I have a pretty vivid imagination and a sense of humor. I also have a good vocabulary and I enjoy doing research.

As for the weaknesses, those are many spelling, punctuation, poetry (I

Genie again ... 6 months on the Cafe, writing since 1960.  Damn, that sounds longer than the other ways to say that!

Writing weaknesses (personal ones are elsewhere ...): too many ellipses, I'm too wordy in the first few drafts, I can't do some poetry forms (due to a somewhat dyslexic brain that keeps me from succeeding with villanelles, sestinas and the like.  I love to read them, just can't get too far with writing them, much to my dismay.).  I tend to get into ruts -- forms, ideas -- and it's hard to pull myself out.

I'm not a fan of dark, gore, or vampire writes, but I will wholeheartedly read and critique them if requested.  I'm afraid I can't stomach porn, but good -- and I mean good -- erotica is a different thing altogether.  If it's gratuitous sex that doesn't benefit the story or move the characters along something besides the bed, then it's porn, imo.

Strengths: Good editor, good friend, good but honest critiquer (there's a big, big difference between critique and criticism!), experience with many genres, experience with publishing processes (both self-publishing and traditional for poetry, fiction and non-fiction), I've been doing this a long time and I love it, academic writing, like to learn new things and read new genres (see above).

One structured form of poetry I can do and love and, according to feedback, I'm good at is haiku, senryu and tanka.  I've dabbled in some of the other related forms and am always eager to expand my knowledge and experience.  I also have some experience with sonnets -- mostly Shakespearean, but I can learn others.

I've got a good sense of humor.  I'm willing and anxious to work with anyone who is serious enough about his or her writing to put in the same kind of time and craftspersonship -- and that means checking for typos, punctuation, misspellings, etc., even in drafts -- that I do and will put in.  I can be a strict taskmistress, but I am fair.  You can be assured that if I push you as a writer, then the writing is good and it's worth working on, however long it takes.

At the same time, I hope others will push me!  Encourage me to dig out the pitiful attempts I made years ago at erotica.  Make me write something that has a vampire in it.  Give me some prompts.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work with others!  I've done some unofficial mentoring work here at the Cafe, but I've also served in that capacity officially for others outside the community here.  It's an honor and a privilege to do so, I feel.  It honors those who served as mentors for me, and I learn so much from being exposed to others' writing, points of view, and experiences.

Hello!  Call me Sep... or Joe... or Jose... or anything you like... I've been a writer's cafe member just 3 or 4 days ago, and just minutes ago in this group... Strengths: Very good imagination. I can come up with the most ridiculous ideas for stories. Spelling (I've been a spelling champ when I was a little kid haha can't believe I still remember that). Grammar. Weaknesses: I am too lazy to write, even if I have this great idea for a story. Me being a perfectionist. I want my written works to be perfect, even if I know that something is missing, I consider that a weakness. Imagery. I think I also lack in Unity. Need a mentor btw...
