My Name Is...

My Name Is...

A Story by 1blaquote

I wake you in the midnight hour wringing wet with sweat,

and whisper in your ear so you will not forget.

It is my realm that you cater to,

I attach myself to everything you do,

then remind you it is me that controls you.

I take your compassion and replace it with doubt,

then snatch up your goodness and cast it all out.

I cover your spiritual eye, when you are being abused,

then twist your thoughts and leave you confused.

I laugh and mock you as you pray,

then I purposely sabortage your day.

I corrupt your conciousness with my sudtle charm

Then I convience you that I mean no harm.

I bring you guilt, resentment and anger,

then I lead you helplessly into danger.

I lye dormant until you are on the right track,

then I pounce and drag you right back.

I have you in my grip and have no intention of letting you go,

Love can defeat me, but this fact you will never know.

I have kept you in darkness and manipulated your heart,

then piece by piece I tore your life apart.

I intend to pull you to the point of no return,

and the lessons of the soul, you will never learn.

I have the ability to mutate and change how I appear,

Though you can't Identify me, my voice still draws you near,

I've robbed you of your peacful reality, because my name is

FEAR!

"I am your master and my name is FEAR!" Now isn't that very original. The narrator's words speak with a vile sassiness that's got a cup-ful of attitude in it. I was almost under the impression that this is something from an unrealesed MC Lyte single; the rhyme flow is just too invogorating and full of dark humour.

I like this poem because we all deal with some type of fear.....but you are right God hasn't given us the spirit of fear but of POWER, LOVE, and a SOUND MIND. So we don't allow it to defeat us but thru God and his word we day by day by day defeat fear. Amen Peace & Blessings

You had me riveted from the beginning - the sinister nature of this 'character' shines through so poignontly. Well done once again. I found myself becoming more and more afraid as I read on simply from your words...which can be powerful as well as they are here. A they say 'There is nothing to fear but fear itself' - I say 'get it out of my way.'

I got scared as I read. I was afraid at the middle of the poem. I was cringing. This is a dark piece. I sense you could take this even deeper to something akin to terror. I notice you laced this poem with remembrances of perhaps a love gone bad. involuntary subservience can often lead to this paralyzing type fear you speak of.

Very well done. You indeed captured the essence of one manipulated by the ugly hands of fear.
