Follow the Water

Follow the Water

A Poem by Olivia Danielle

My dream is to follow the water

I’m not sure where it will take me

I’m certain I don’t care

I immerse my feet in the warm mud

Then take a step onto a rock

I hope the rocks will guide me

Some look promising, but cause me to slip

Some, I don’t even approach

Some I know will support me

Every so often, when I reach shallow water

I step in and splash around

I hold the hands of tree branches when I need more love

Some snap immediately

Some crack after a while and cause me to fall

Some give me the gentle help I need to get to the next rock

I look back at everything that helped me along the way

All the rocks and branches

They are my past

I look ahead

I don’t know if it will reach a large body of water

Or if it will trail off onto land

I’m certain I don’t care

For the time being I ignore everything on either side of the water

This is all I will ever need

Hello dear Olivia.
"Some give me the gentle help I need to get to the next rock

All the rocks and branches

I love the above lines. We may need help and one day. We will help another. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I love the imagery in this! Absolutely gorgeous, the words about water making it that much stronger. Such a smart poem, and truly deep and beautiful. I adored the symbolism, too, something you always seem to have such a strong talent with.
